Johnny Cash getting some of his puppy training done. This went on before the tee-pee trials.
let me draw her beautiful new rifle dog puppy! He was very fun to do and I adore him. I really can't wait to see what she does with this boy!
Alright story time so sit down and shut up!
Katherine decided that if she was going to take the pup on the week long trip with her he needed some training. He was young enough that not to many bad habits were set in, and those that had were manage able. Most things he got very easily, but three parts of the training troubled him the most. Stay took a while for him to get. When ever Katherine left his ears would perk and it would usually take under a minute before he was up on his feet looking for her. After a bit of reassuring she was coming back, and the help of a tie post he learned to just wait.
The first time she went to take a bowl of food from the rifle dog his lip raised as he scarfed down as much as he could before she could pull the bowl out of his reach. After only a couple corrections he learned to back off of food as soon as she reached for it, toys were a little harder. No lip raising or growling, but he would clamp on and start tug of war, no mater what she said. After a while he now lets her take the toy out of his mouth without resistance though his eyes seem to say, "really human? Why do you need my toy? Can't you go get your own?"
Katherine noticed that Cash seemed to avoid strangers. They would get a pet or two in and then he would get up and move away, and rather quickly too. Dogs he was alright with, sometimes one would run up to quickly and his hackles would rise along with a growl, but Katherine broke him of that. He still moves away after a few minutes of strangers being to close to him, but now it isn't a hasty retreat. During the testing Katherine was nervous as Cash and her walked through the crowd of people and dogs, especially when a beautiful little puppy came bounding over with happy tail and butt wiggling. Pausing Cash perked his ears and raised his body up a bit, but his tailed raised and Katherine could tell he was being playful with the small thing. The puppy barked playfully and turned to run, but Cash didn't give chase, he just did a little jump after him and then looked around for Katherine and trotted back over to her.
